Why on Deck

The Messenger starts as a tight 8-bit platformer and then pulls the rug out from under you in the best way possible. No spoilers, but the game transforms halfway through into something much bigger, and that moment of surprise is worth protecting. The retro art style looks perfect on the Deck’s screen, the platforming is precise and responsive on the sticks, and the soundtrack by Rainbowdragoneyes is one of the best in gaming. It’s funny, it’s surprising, and it plays like it was made for a handheld. Honestly this might be the single best retro platformer on the Deck.
