Darkest Dungeon is brutally stressful in the best possible way, and ironically playing it on a handheld takes some of the edge off. The contained screen makes the oppressive atmosphere feel manageable somehow. Each expedition runs 20–40 minutes: tight, self-contained, then done. The gothic pixel art looks tremendous, and the narrator’s voice work hits completely differently when you’re in a quiet room with headphones.
